Reviews

Absolutely had it with 509

"I am infuriated with these helmet shields. They do not provide anywhere near enough tint nor do they look anywhere close to what’s shown in the pictures, the only visors worth looking at is the sapphire and chrome mirror and even then it’s not enough. And of course after a year of waiting for 509 to restock the Fire Mirror visor I’m told it’s been discontinued. If I didn’t own 3 Mach V’s already I wouldn’t touch this company again, I have my own gripes about the Mach V but not for this review."

"The photochromatic visor works great. It does a good job of reducing light enough for good visibility while riding in bright conditions. It is a little in the slower side to transition but for what you get it's definitely worth it. As a side note it's not the darkest visor when shaded but is plenty dark enough that it keeps your face obscured from what would be normal distance in public when riding."

Mach V Commander

"The sizing guide you use for your helmets is ludicrous. I first purchased the XL, which for every other manufacturer has been adequate. When yours arrived it nearly tore my ears off. So, in good faith I paid to return it for your XXL. I swear you sent me the same helmet but changed the sticker to XXL. Worst company ever."

This is a great helmet.

"This is a great helmet. Really comfortable and the Cardo system is spot on! I had to go one size bigger than my 509 MX helmet."

Jerett M. (5/5)

"Maybe its just the NC sun but i’m questioning if it works or how well/fast it works. Too early to tell yet. Other than that, its a well made visor."

Michael (4/5)

Not like in the pictures

"The Gold Mirror looks like it is just a clear shield. Not concealing."

Dustin (1/5)

"Its a very clear shield with the lightest layer of gold film. Not concealing."

Dustin (1/5)

"Really cool looking in the right lights. But not concealing enough for me. I want a dark gold that actually hides my face."

Christopher (3/5)

"Does not look at all what it looks like in the picture"

Matthew (1/5)

Neutral

"Helmet fits awesome but it doesn't connect well to other helmets. My wife has a helmet with a sena intercom and they don't like each other. Then I've been trying to get the fire mirror shield since I bought it and apparently they'll never have them again and that's the one I bought the helmet wanting it to look like."

Q&A

Does the mirrored purple or mirrored Sapphire visor act like sunglasses (provide shade from the sun) or are they like a clear visor where sunglasses are required?
Hey Danny, the Purple Mirror and Sapphire Mirror do have a slight tint, however, it is not to the same tint extent that a pair of sunglasses has. Due to DOT regulations, we are unable to provide a super dark tint so even our mirror tints are on the lighter side. Apologies for any inconvenience!
Have the commander helmet with tail light, integrated cardo and heated visor. do these visors also have the heated aspect?
Hey Nathaniel, the Mach V Shield is not heated nor does it have heated capabilities. Our [Mach V Commander](https://ride509.com/collections/street-helmets/products/mach-v-commander-helmet) and [Mach V Carbon Commander Helmets](https://ride509.com/collections/street-helmets/products/mach-v-carbon-commander-helmet) do not possess heated capabilities. However, the snow version - the [Delta V Commander](https://ride509.com/collections/snow-helmet-collection/products/delta-v-commander-helmet) and [Delta V Carbon Commander Helmets](https://ride509.com/collections/snow-helmet-collection/products/delta-v-carbon-commander-helmet) are heated and come with a heated shield.
I've been hoping to get the Fire Mirror Mach V Helmet Shield for a helmet I bought from 509. I've been on the waiting list for a while. I was wondering if they plan to get more of these? I bought the Mach V helmet with that shield in mind.
Hi Joseph, Good news! We did order more Mach V Helmet shields including the very popular Fire Mirror. Although we do not have an exact shipment date yet we should have them in stock in time for spring riding season! Thank you for reaching out.
this might sound dumb, but I cannot seem to find a way to remove the yellow film. I definitely know it's on there from the way it looks all yellow, but I cannot seem to be able to take it off is there a trick to taking it off??
Hey Jesus, have you made sure you are peeling the film off of the inside of the shield? Usually best bet is to start at one edge and get a nail under there and it should peel up from there.
Will these cross over to the Delta series?
Hello! We have heated shields built specifically to fit with our Delta V models. They are called the [Ignite Shield for Delta V Helmets](https://ride509.com/products/ignite-shield-for-delta-v-helmets).
